Chaz Malibu is a beloved radio personality who has been in the radio business since 1983. A hometown boy, born and raised in Old Town, and a graduate of Albuquerque High School in 1985.  He is very involved in the local community and extremely proud of his Spanish Heritage.  His ties in the community run very deep.  His grandfather was a landowner in Old Town who was a descendent of one of the original founding families of Albuquerque.  His uncle is Roberto Mondragon, singer, entertainer, and former Lt. Governor of New Mexico.  Chaz has teamed up with many charities throughout the years, including:  the UNM Children’s Hospital, the March of Dimes, the Barrett House, and has been a “live” television host of the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon on KRQE Channel 13 for many years.  He often visits local schools to talk, and read to the students.  He also can be heard on a variety of radio commercials.

Not only has he been a radio personality, but Chaz was also a children’s television host for the Fox Kid’s Club in the 90’s.  He performed alongside his sister Anita as puppet, “Vanilla I. Scream”.  In addition, he has been a choreographer for many middle, and high school swing choirs.  He received the Hugh B. Woodward scholarship for acting at the University of New Mexico.  Most recently, he performed in El Theatro’s version of “Anna in the Tropics” at the Roy E. Disney Theatre inside the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Chaz is the assistant director of the Award winning Duke City Sound, a Barbershop Chorus in Albuquerque.  He sings in a Barbershop quartet, “Blue Steele” and previously had sung in a three time Gold Medalist Quartet, “the Summit”.  You might have even seen them on television in commercials for the New Mexico Lottery.

In his 23 year career, he has worked at several radio stations in town.  During his shows, he can always be heard reminiscing about what it was like growing up in Albuquerque, talking about the “good ‘ol days” spent with family and friends, and the love of his family and heritage.  Chaz enjoys working inside the community, and is very proud to call Albuquerque his home town!
